Hunting in Warren Pennsylvania is a tremendous experience. The vast amount of Forest and Game Lands in Warren County provides everyone with an opportunity. It offers a little bit of everything from small game to trophy animals such as dear and bears. Warren County has many easy access roads which provide everyone the chance to get into the woods and enjoy the outdoors.

Warren County Council of Sportsmen’s Clubs, Inc.

The Council came into existence in 1934 and has been affiliated with the Pennsylvania Federation of Sportsmen’s Clubs since inception. The original purpose of the Council was to facilitate an improved line of communications between all Warren County Sportsmen’s Clubs, PGC, PFBC, and the Pa. Legislatures. This line of communication kept all County Sportsmen aware of proposed changes being requested by PGC or the Fish and Game Committee and how it may affect fish, water quality, wildlife and wildlife habitat. This also gave County Sportsmen an avenue to input their feelings and suggestions to the PGC and PFBC.

Since 1975, the Council has sponsored the Annual Landowner’s Appreciation Dinner, (better known as the Buffalo Dinner), to honor local landowners who make their properties available for hunting, fishing, and trapping to all Warren County sportsmen.

Today, even though the Council is still deeply involved with the Legislative aspect and keeping Warren County Sportsmen informed, we strive to keep the youth of Warren County actively involved with the wonders of the outdoors. Without participation in these outdoor activities, they lose one of the best opportunities available to receive a good understanding and full appreciation for the conservation of the environment they live in.

Over the years, Council has had the foresight and leadership to initiate several youth programs which continue today as annual events.

1. Providing funding for up to two Warren County teenagers, to attend the one week, “Penn State University Conservation Leadership School”
2. Warren County Conservation Camp. This yearly three day summer camp is for Warren County Youth between the ages of 12 to 15, presently being co-sponsored with the Warren County Soil Conservation District
3. A one day Warren County Youth Field Day is held each year. Kids between the ages of 10 to 15 get to participate in several outdoor activities.
4. In 2001 we introduced the Pennsylvania Federation of Sportsmen’s Clubs “Poster Contest” for all grades in Warren County Schools.
5. A College Scholarship program was started in 1996. Council has awarded (22) Scholarships to date. Annually a “Benefit Shoot” is held in the fall to raise revenue for our scholarship program.
6. Even though it is not in Warren County, Council also financially supports the Cooks Forest “Kiddies Fishing Program” annually.
7. Council also assists the “Warren County Winter Fest” with manpower and administers the “Ice Fish Derby”.

The Warren County Council of Sportsmen’s Clubs initiated a $5,000 grant in 2000, through the office of Representative Jim Lynch, to cover the cost of material and labor to build and install cribs for fish cover in the lake of Chapman Dam State Park.

The Warren County Council of Sportsmen’s Clubs was one of the main originations who initiated the Akeley Swamp SGL #288 Hydrology Restoration program. The Council’s initiative in 2002 was responsible for securing a $20,000 grant through Representative Jim Lynch for this program.
