The 2011 edition of the Gran Fondo of the Alleghenies offers riders of all skill levels the opportunity to share a love for the sport of cycling as well as the great outdoors without the pressures of the typical "race".
While a maximum time limit is assigned to each leg of the Fondo, this is included only as a safety precaution for participants and administrators of the event.
All routes begin and end at the Sheffield Middle/Senior High School located on Route 6, two miles West of down-town Sheffield and head Easterly towards the City of Warren.
Proceeds from the event support the ongoing activities of the Warren County Council on Tourism. There are three ride distances to choose from….30, 60 and 115 miles. All routes traverse the beautiful Allegheny National Forest in the Heart of Kinzua Country. Experience the Alleghenies as never before! Registrations received by September 17, 2011 will be guaranteed a commemorative event T-shirt upon completing the selected course as well as a commemorative sports bottle complete with water upon checking in.
The Gran Fondo of the Alleghenies is intended to promote both the sport of cycling in the Northwestern Pennsylvania region as well as provide participants the opportunity to enjoy the unmatched beauty of the Allegheny National Forest and the hospitality of our communities during the peak of the fall foliage season.
Three distances are offered to choose from which are listed below. Please keep in mind that there's a recommended ability to complete each Fondo at an average rate. Please view the distances and average speed level below to help you make your decision.

Warren County Winter-Fest is the largest winter event in the Pennsylvania Wilds region. Held at Chapman State Park in late January of each year, our event features a variety of winter outdoor activities for the whole family to enjoy. On Friday, Winter-Fest kicks off with the Mid-Distance Race, part of the Jim Lobdell Memorial Sled Dog Races. Contestants race from the beach on Chapman State Park to Hickory Creek Wilderness Ranch and back, a total of 32 miles. On Friday afternoon the “Meet the Musher” supper is held at the Kalbfus Rod and Gun Club.
On Saturday morning, Chapman State Park begins a long slate of family-fun events; starting with Lobdell sprint races, ice fishing and cross country skiing. There will be a whole host of events, vendors and refreshments under the Big Tent. The Canine Weight Pull starts at 10:00 AM. National-champion weight pulling dogs compete between Pavilion #1 and Pavilion #2.The Patrick Shine Polar Bear Plunge is scheduled for 2:00 PM on Saturday afternoon. Plungers register prior to the event, each donating to benefit the Salvation Army’s Warren citadel. The Allegheny National Forest Snowmobile Loop passes through Chapman State Park. Snowmobilers riding the four-county Loop are welcome to stop at the park and enjoy Winter-Fest. Sled Dog Racing and some other non Winter-Fest sponsored activities continue Sunday including a toboggan race. This event will be hosted by Julie Mader, a juried PA Wilds artist from Smethport. "Embrace PA" will display paintings and drawings of a variety of PA images, with a focus on the area north of Interstate 80. An Opening Reception will be held on November 2nd from 5-7pm.
